Mr Inspector is a qualified Building and Pest inspector operating around Melbourne since 2004.
The above photograph shows old termite damage to floor timber found at a building inspection in Brunswick. The timber channelling is a good indicator of termites but you won’t see the channelling until you break open the timber. Part of the process is to test all accessible timber around your home to sound for hollowness. Once we find hollow timber we have concerns as to the cause. It can be rot but normally this can be seen on the timber itself. If no rot is visible it may be termite’s that have eaten the inside timber sections.
Timber sleepers in the garden are prime real estate for termites and we often see termite damage in these sleepers. If they are there, they are close and you house is at risk. If you have any queries, feel free to contact Mr Inspector for advice.

Peter has a Diploma of Building Surveying which makes him one of the few in Melbourne who are Qualified to carry out building inspections as per the Building Act 1993. He is also qualified in Timber Pest Inspections (Cert 3), Pool Barrier Inspection (Certificate 11077454) and Non-Friable Asbestos Awareness and removal.
